Hello parents, and welcome to Mrs. Ruther's First Grade Classroom! I can't wait to get to know all about your child as they find their place in our first grade family. First and foremost, as their teacher, it is so important to me to get to know each and every child on a personal level - what they like, what they don't like, what frustrates them, what motivates them, what silly things they're passionate about. I hope every student goes through the year feeling comfortable and loved by the people around them. When they walk into our room, they shouldn't feel like a student at a school, but a member of a classroom family that is together on a quest to learn new things each day.
Academically, students will enter the next grade with a better understanding of how to apply the social and academic skills we learn in the classroom to the world around them.  To prepare them for this, we will be doing a lot of hands on, fun learning, as well as small group and individual lessons to reach every child where they are at, and in a style that STICKS.  First grade is a pivotal year for your reading, writing, problem solving child, and I can't wait to see just how much your student can grow in this 9 months we have together. It's going to be a great year at Wildwood!
A Little About Mrs. Ruther
I live in Spring with my husband, Tad who teaches 6th grade at Tomball Intermediate.  Together we have two daughters: Aubrey, 3 &1/2, and Ava who will be two in December. She was our little Christmas blessing, born on the 27th! They are my whole world!
I am a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and am going into my fifth year of teaching first grade. I am certified to teach EC-6 as well as ESL and GT students. Originally I am from central Iowa, but I ran to Texas as soon as I graduated college--I guess you can say midwest winters are not for me! In my spare time when I'm not teaching or momming, you can find me with my Canon snapping pictures, riding horses, or planning(ok, more like dreaming) up my next travel adventure!

Take Home Readers

Starting this week, students will be taking home readers after they've met with me during guided reading. These will be kept in a tan folder that will always be stored in their backpack. There is a reading log and some important information about helping your little reader with fluency and comprehension strategies. Please make sure your child is filling out the reading log and bringing back their readers to school every day, as they will need them in class, too.

Parent Orientation Information

Hey parents,
It was so great to see all of you last night! If you weren't able to come, or would like to review the information presented, feel free to review the powerpoint. As always, email me with questions if you have any:)

Wednesday Folders, Library

Today first graders checked out library books from the school library for the first time. They may take these books home to read, but please make sure they are returned next Thursday. Students will not be able to check out a new book unless they return their old one.
Wednesday folders and the first round of graded work went home yesterday! You may also check your child's grades through the home access center.
