All About Mrs. Greenberg...

Welcome to Kindergarten!!  I am so excited to be your child's teacher!

I joined Tomball ISD six years ago as a Kindergarten teacher at Timber Creek Elementary School in The Woodlands.  Before this I was a stay-at-home mom with my two daughters: Kate  -  18, and Rachel  -  16. I am certified to teach Pre-K thru 6th grade and English as a Second Language (ESL). I am also GT Certified.  Teaching children is my heart's passion and I am thankful to be with your children each day!

I am originally from southern Missouri, and I have lived in Tomball since 1997 with my husband, Rob, and our daughters.  Rob is a computer software engineer at Hewlett Packard.  Our daughters have always gone to TISD schools and we couldn't be happier with the superb education they have received!  Kate is starting her freshman year this fall at Texas A & M in College Station (Whoop!) , and Rachel is a sophomore at Tomball Memorial High School.

We have an adorable doggie who is the queen of our household named Molly.  She is a miniature poodle and extremely smart!  She makes us laugh every day!  I love to share many "Molly" stories with my students. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with you and your child!

This week in Mrs. Greenberg's Kindergarten class...

Parents:  Please remember to send a water bottle with a sport top and a snack for your child EVERY DAY!!!

*It is best to send your child in tennis shoes daily! It is required for PE and recommended for daily recess. I strongly encourage you to use velcro or other shoes that do not have shoe strings unless your child can tie his/her own shoes.

**Please make sure your child keeps a complete change of clothing in his/her backpack including underwear, shoes and socks.  If your child needs a change of transportation, our school must receive the notice in writing before 3:00 that day!!!    THANK YOU!!!

Our library day is Tuesday!  We have started going to the library weekly.  Please remember to have your child return their library book on or before each Tuesday so that they can check out a new book!

English Language Arts, Reading and Writing:

Letter/sound intro this week:  Zz, Qq, plus review all letters;  Sight words:  review all 12 for this nine weeks.  We will be identifying beginning sounds of words and identifying rhyming vs. non-rhyming words.  (Please see the "Kindergarten Sight Words" page of this website for a list of our sight words to work on at home).  This first nine weeks we are working on the first column of sight words.  Your child will receive a grade on the report card for how many of their sight words they know.
Writing:  Continuing to work on telling a story with detailed pictures, labels and a sentence.  This week we will focus on telling a story across several pages, like a book.  Please practice writing names at home with capital letter first followed by lower case letters!  Your child can also always benefit from practicing writing all letters capital and lower case.

Math:

Generating a set of objects that is one more, one less, or equal to a given number.  Comparing sets of objects by using language such as more than, fewer than, or equal to.

Science/ Social Studies:

Observing and recording properties of objects such as relative size (bigger or smaller), mass (heavier or lighter), shape, color and texture.  Exploring different types of textures and describing how they feel.
